Wholesale Tiers
Tiers are the core of Tradeleap: named customer groups, each with its own pricing. This guide covers creating tiers, assigning customers, and how the discount reaches your checkout.
What is a tier?
A tier is a wholesale customer level — Bronze, Silver, Gold, Distributor, VIP, or any name you like — with a default discount percentage that applies to all products. A customer belongs to one tier at a time. Visitors who aren't assigned to a tier always see your regular retail prices.
Creating tiers
- Open the Wholesale section of your dashboard.
- Click New Tier and give it a name.
- Set the default discount percentage — e.g. Gold = 30%, Silver = 20%, Bronze = 10%.
- Save. You can create as many tiers as you need — there's no limit.
Assigning customers
In the Wholesale section, open the Customers tab and assign each wholesale buyer to a tier. On Shopify, the app writes the tier to the customer's account, so the correct pricing follows them everywhere — storefront, cart, and checkout. On WooCommerce, tier assignments sync to the plugin and apply to logged-in customers.
A customer must be logged in to their account on your store to receive wholesale pricing. That's what keeps wholesale prices hidden from retail shoppers.
Pricing rules and overrides
The tier default is just the starting point. You can refine pricing with rules:
- Product and variant overrides — give a specific product (or a single variant) its own discount for a tier, overriding the tier default.
- Collection pricing (Shopify) — apply a discount to every product in a collection, per tier.
- Volume discounts — quantity breaks such as "buy 10+ get 15% off, buy 50+ get 25% off", with configurable minimum and maximum quantities.
When rules overlap, the most specific one wins: a variant/product override beats collection pricing, which beats the tier's default discount.
How discounts apply at checkout
On Shopify, Tradeleap syncs your tiers and pricing rules into the store as app-owned metafields, and a Shopify Functions discount computes the correct price for each cart line at checkout. There are no discount codes to distribute and nothing for the customer to enter — a logged-in Gold customer simply sees Gold prices. This works on every Shopify plan, including Basic.
On WooCommerce, the plugin hooks into standard WooCommerce price filters: logged-in tier customers see strikethrough retail prices with their wholesale price on product pages, and the discount carries through the cart and checkout automatically.
