WooCommerce doesn't ship with wholesale pricing. Out of the box, every visitor sees the same price — so store owners selling to both retail shoppers and B2B buyers end up juggling coupon codes, duplicate products, or a second "wholesale site" that's always out of sync.
The cleaner approach is tier-based customer pricing: assign each wholesale buyer to a tier (Bronze, Silver, Gold), and let the store apply that tier's discount automatically when they're logged in. Here's how to set it up free with the Tradeleap WooCommerce plugin.
What the plugin does
- Unlimited wholesale tiers with per-tier default discounts
- Automatic price adjustment for logged-in wholesale customers — product pages show strikethrough retail prices with the wholesale price and a badge, and cart/checkout totals recalculate automatically
- Per-product overrides when a flat tier percentage doesn't fit
- Works with simple and variable products, and is HPOS-compatible
- Central dashboard sync — manage tiers once at tradeleap.io and sync to WooCommerce, Shopify, or both
Step 1: Install the plugin
- Download the Tradeleap plugin and upload it under Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin in WordPress admin (WooCommerce must be active)
- Activate it — you'll see new items under the WooCommerce menu: TL Tiers, TL Customers, TL Pricing, and TL Settings
Step 2: Connect your Tradeleap account (optional but recommended)
The plugin works standalone, but connecting it to a free tradeleap.io account gives you a central dashboard, analytics, and cross-platform sync. In TL Settings, paste your API URL and API key, then use the connection test button. Full details are in the WooCommerce documentation.
Step 3: Create your tiers
Open TL Tiers and add your levels — for example Bronze at 10%, Silver at 15%, Gold at 20%. Each tier's default discount applies across the catalog for customers in that tier. If you manage tiers centrally, one click pulls them from your Tradeleap dashboard instead.
Step 4: Assign wholesale customers
In TL Customers, find each wholesale buyer and assign their tier. Pricing follows the login: when that customer signs in, product pages show their wholesale price with the retail price struck through, and the cart applies the discount automatically. Retail visitors are untouched.
Step 5: Fine-tune per-product pricing
Use TL Pricing to set product-specific discounts that override the tier default — useful for protecting margins on specific items or offering deeper cuts on overstock. Overrides accept a different percentage per tier on the same product.
Step 6: Test the buyer experience
- Create a test customer account and assign it to a tier
- Log in as that customer in a private browser window
- Check a product page — you should see the strikethrough retail price, the wholesale price, and a wholesale badge
- Add to cart and confirm totals use the wholesale price through checkout
WooCommerce vs Shopify for wholesale
If you run stores on both platforms (or are choosing between them), the tier logic works identically — Tradeleap syncs the same tiers and customer assignments to both, with the Shopify side enforcing prices via checkout-native Shopify Functions. See the Shopify setup guide for that side, and our comparison of B2B vs B2C e-commerce models if you're still planning the channel.
